Therapeutic Limericks about Mental Health
Sensible Limericks about Scientific Materialism
These are strange times we live in. From one day to the next, coronavirus utterly transformed the world we live in. As every sense of comfort and security is turned on its head, the authorities tell us that above all else, we must avoid human contact. And yet I can think of nothing more vital and desirable at this challenging time than a little human contact. Desperate for solace, I turn instead to find a few limericks about hope.
We have a number of ways to approach this crisis. For many of us, the amygdala will kick in with the flight or flight response. Some will feel inclined to run for the hills, while others will race directly to the toiletry aisle of the closest box store.
Given the spectrum of uncertainties — physical, social, financial, political, and so forth — we have every right to panic, and some of us surely already have. Whether you’re hoarding staples or just assuming the fetal position in a dark corner, your feelings are valid and understandable. And though you may be confined in isolation, you are not alone.
I could try and reassure you with a host of uplifting and worn out cliches, but instead I offer you a handful of limericks about hope.
On the Wave
Life is a journey, each day is a test
Take what you need and let go of the rest
Be patient, be wise
And soon you will rise
For behind every trough there awaits a new crest
Trial by Fire
Drop in on Hades for left-handed learning
Not to say Hell where the wicked are burning
It’s not for the dead
But ye heroes instead
When you rise and return you’ll be twice as discerning
Roll With It
Some days there’s nothing can stop you from winning
On others you can’t keep your wallet from thinning
A sunflower dies
A new moon will rise
Your luck, like our planet, just never stops spinning
Vipassana
Meditation’s a method for clearing the air
A portable practice to take anywhere
Let go of your thought
And all you’ve been taught
As you breathe in the light and dissolve into prayer
Come and get it
The future is coming, approaching as planned
Erasing the present like words in the sand
But remember your dreams
Resolve the extremes
And the wisdom of life shall be at your command
Revival
From the dreary dim shadows where secrets are spoken
Pick up the pieces, what’s tattered and broken
The cure for your trouble
Beneath all that rubble
Only from darkness can daylight be woken
The Poison and the Cure
Discover the medicine maybe abuse it
The day could arrive when you choose to refuse it
Live it and breathe it
Or take it or leave it
With patience and time you can learn how to use it
In Gout We Trust
There’s so many problems that no one can list ‘em
They tried some solutions and narrowly missed ‘em
If health is restored
Give thanks to the Lord
Your only hope now is a single prayer system
Prophet Sharing
I know a method for healing Creation
A cure for the illness afflicting the nation
If hate is the cancer
Then I have the answer
By way of the limerick I offer salvation
