Limericks about the Divided Psyche
Endearing Limericks about the Muse
The end of the world is not a topic that I tend to dwell upon, but over the years I’ve written a few limericks about the apocalypse. And each year the end times seem to draw a little closer. At the same time, the glimmer of hope glows with varying degrees of brightness.
This year, it’s Greta Thunberg who brings me the greatest hope. Although the message she bears is one of urgency and doom. The dinosaurs, with their feeble minds, were victims of circumstance. After 200 million years of global domination, a stray meteor delivered them into extinction.
As humans, by contrast, we have the technology and the mental capacity to forge our own destiny. Or do we? Whether it’s the fate of our species, or the outcome of the individual, all things on earth must whither and pass. And what shall become of our souls? That’s another question entirely.
Armageddon
Remember your heroes, give thanks when you pray
Sing praise to the maker who cast you from clay
But who will survive
When the horsemen arrive
When the fisher returns and a fool saves the day
Judgment Day
In Sunday school class the initiate learns
To imitate Jesus with virtuous turns
To do unto others
And love all his brothers
But where will he stand when the Savior returns?
Mass Extinctions
The dinosaur reaches with gnarly sharp nails
Where will he be when the atmosphere fails
With nothing to lose
He’ll be singin’ the blues
In paleo-meso-melodian scales
Extinction
This orb was once ruled by reptilian giants
Who preyed on the weak with a grizzly defiance
They reigned on for eons
With brains like poor peons
A lesson therein from the pages of science
The End Times
Mankind advances through uneven stages
The path of our species foretold by the sages
Accept the decay
Prevailing today
Come forth, Kali Yuga, the darkest of ages
