13 Educational Limericks for Diligent Students
Limericks about Reference Books
Once in a while, someone asks me how I write so many limericks. In fact, I’ve hardly written any. I simply stop and listen. And then I transcribe the words as they are spoken to me from the great beyond. The source is a mystery, as much as the future and the past. A few limericks about fate and fortune will entertain that uncertainty.
Say what you like about 2020, but the vision of our species has never felt less sharp than it does today. We can throw our arms up in despair, or we can try to play an active role in our planet’s destiny.
The course of history is a cocktail of blessings and curses, a subtle dance between the whims of fortune and the wills of (wo)men. We respond to the events of the universe, while quantum mechanics has shown that the events of the universe respond to us. And there’s never been a more important time to carve your own destiny. So I hope the following limericks might inspire you to do so.
Free Will
There once was a question of fate
Do we choose it or simply just wait
It’s more than a ride
No, you must decide
Fetch your fortune before it’s too late
Amor Fati
There once was a hole but my hope has now filled it
My cup swims with joy even after I’ve spilled it
Your faith too can grow
Just as soon as you go
From believing “it is” to believing “I willed it”
Destiny
The Hidden One knows there’s a purpose for you
So pay close attention and watch for the clue
The signs on the road
Your own secret code
Now don’t disappoint her whatever you do
Roll With It
Some days there’s nothing can stop you from winning
On others you can’t keep your wallet from thinning
A sunflower dies
A new moon will rise
Your luck, like our planet, just never stops spinning
Fortuna
Few things are crueler than fortune’s caprices
Millions go hungry while one man increases
A rain cloud of Kryloff’s
Skips over the dry crops
Then reaches the sea and abruptly releases
Treasure Maps
Wait for the sound when Fortuna comes knocking
Perk up your ears as her voice begins talking
A goddess of trails
And remover of veils
She’ll point to your path but she won’t do your walking
Quest and Answer
The hero approaches to answer the calling
Just when he thought that his fortune’s were stalling
A rumble down under
And two peals of thunder
Then suddenly pennies from heaven were falling
Steady the Course
There’s winning and losing in life as in sports
For happiness too: an illusion of sorts
A moment of gladness
Is followed by sadness
So aim for that balance the stoic exhorts
Kismet
Do as you please with freewill in your hand
Act like the future is at your command
But fate never fails
Fortuna prevails
As sure as the timepiece devours the sand
The End
When beckoned by death’s fateful kiss
In this moment you might reminisce
As your past is unfurled
You cling to the world
Now let go and descend the abyss
